Heroes of the Storm Patch 57 is live as of September 28, 2026, and it delivers something the Nexus has not seen in a long time: a brand-new playable hero. Blizzard’s official announcement confirms that Xal’atath, Harbinger of the Void is the 91st Hero — and the first new hero in almost six years.

Xal’atath joins HotS as a Void Ranged Assassin
Xal’atath is a Medium difficulty Ranged Assassin who fights with Mana plus a secondary resource, Soul Essence. Her fantasy centers on a summonable object called the Dark Heart: she rewards spatial control, foresight, and longer fights, growing more dangerous the longer a battle lasts.
According to Blizzard’s Patch 57 hero overview, her core kit includes:
- Trait — Void Volley: Basic attacks build Soul Essence; at full Essence she unleashes a barrage of void orbs while moving freely, tied to a Void Whispers quest that upgrades range, charge speed, piercing, and void damage.
- Q — Shadow Mark: A large Void Orb that marks enemy Heroes in its inner radius; the Dark Heart moves to the impact point and detonates on marked targets.
- W — Dark Heart Ritual: Summons the Dark Heart to pulse void energy, then follow and detonate on Shadow Marked Heroes.
- E — Void Step: Blink between three points in a triangle, gaining attack damage at each stop (can be cancelled early). PTR feedback moved her mobility to E to match most other Heroes.
- Heroic — Void Eruption: Channel a growing void orb, launch it to blind enemies and dominate space, then detonate; cast on the Dark Heart for an instant empowered eruption.
- Heroic — Void Convergence: Summon a portal that spawns relentless void minions until the portal ends or is destroyed.

You can unlock Xal’atath now for USD $7.99. Blizzard says the aim is to make her available for gold later this year, tentatively around the end of November. Launch-only purchase pricing is framed as a way to keep acquisition simple for new and returning players while the team gauges sustainability.
