UNO tips and free card games on Gipcus

UNO looks like pure luck, but close rounds are usually won by the player who manages their hand better. Here are UNO rules in 60 seconds and 7 UNO strategy tips you can practise right now in UNO on Gipcus — free in your browser on phone or desktop, no download.

UNO rules in 60 seconds

  • Everyone starts with 7 cards. On your turn, match the top card of the discard pile by colour, number or symbol.
  • Can’t play? Draw a card. In the official rules, if the drawn card is playable you may play it at once.
  • Skip skips the next player, Reverse flips the direction, Draw Two makes the next player draw two and lose their turn.
  • Wild lets you name any colour; Wild Draw Four names a colour and makes the next player draw four — officially only when you have no card matching the current colour.
  • Say “UNO” when you play down to one card. First to empty their hand wins the round.

Online versions sometimes tweak house rules (stacking, draw-until-playable), so check how the game you’re playing handles them on your first round.

7 UNO tips to win more games

1. Save Wild cards for emergencies

A Wild can be played on anything, so it’s your escape card. Spending it early when you have a normal match wastes your best defence for the moment you’re stuck.

2. Dump high-value and action cards before the end

In points-based UNO, the winner scores the cards left in opponents’ hands — number cards at face value, action cards 20, Wilds 50. If someone is close to going out, get rid of your expensive cards first.

3. Change colour away from the leader

Watch which colour the player with fewest cards keeps playing or keeps drawing on. Switch to a colour they’ve struggled with, using a number match or a Wild.

4. Hold Draw Two and Skip for the player about to win

Action cards are most valuable when the next player is on one or two cards. Firing them at a player with ten cards does little.

5. Use Reverse as a shield

If the next player is about to go out, a Reverse sends play the other way and buys a turn — especially strong in small games where it can act like a Skip.

6. Keep your colours spread

Holding several colours means you can follow more plays without drawing. When choosing what to discard, prefer the colour you have most of, so your hand stays flexible.

7. Never forget to call UNO

Under standard rules, getting caught with one card and no “UNO” call costs you two penalty cards. Make the call a habit.
