Quick answer: Brain Test on Gipcus has a balloon tutorial and then 40 trick puzzles. The table below gives every answer in the order the game serves them, then each puzzle is explained step by step. Eleven puzzles need a phone’s motion sensors or two fingers. On a computer the game says that puzzle can only be solved on mobile and lets you skip it for free, so you can still finish all 40 in a desktop browser.

Search for “Brain Test answers” and you mostly get walkthroughs for a different app with the same name, and the puzzles don’t match. This guide covers the free HTML5 version that runs on our Brain Test game page. We took every question, answer and hint from that game’s own text and level code, so the solutions are the ones it actually accepts.

How Brain Test works

  • Read the question literally. Many answers are words in the question itself, like “Patch”, “apple”, “fish” or “error”. You drag or tap the word.
  • Wrong answers cost a life. If you run out of lives you can go back 5 puzzles, watch an ad to continue, or spend coins.
  • Three hints per puzzle, paid for with coins. The first gives a clue, the second explains how to solve it, and the third shows the solution and completes the puzzle.
  • Free daily coins. The daily bonus gives you coins for coming back.
  • Phone-only puzzles. Shake, tilt, flip and two-finger puzzles check your device. If you are not on an Android phone, the game explains that the puzzle needs a mobile and offers a free way past it.

Every puzzle explained

Puzzle 0 is the tutorial: pump the balloon until it bursts, then shake the phone to put ketchup on the fries. The farmer guides you through both steps.

1. Which direction bus is heading?

Answer: Left. You cannot see any doors, so they are on the other side of the bus. The game’s logic: the bus is driving to the left. Tap Left.

2. How many wheels on your screen?

Answer: 9. Some wheels are stacked on top of each other. Drag the wheels apart to reveal the hidden ones, then tap 9.

3. ___ the hole in the wheel

Answer: Drag the word “Patch”. The missing word in the question is the patch. Drag the word Patch out of the question and drop it on the hole.

4. Wake this boy. Touch is not an option!

Answer: Shake your phone. Give the phone a quick shake and the boy wakes up. On a computer this is a phone-only puzzle, so take the free skip.

5. What number this ram stands on?

Answer: 87. Turn the picture upside down in your head: the numbers read 87, 88, 89, 90, 91, so the ram is on 87. Set the number to 87 and press OK.

6. Stop this fight

Answer: Pull the rams apart with two fingers. Touch both rams at the same time and drag one up and the other down. On a computer this is a phone-only puzzle, so take the free skip.

7. Drive in nails in correct sequence

Answer: Memorise the numbers, then tap in that order. The sequence of six numbers is random each attempt, so no fixed answer works. Watch the numbers before they disappear and hit the nails in that order. The third hint reveals the sequence.

8. Guess what is X

Answer: 14. The rule is the sum of the three numbers divided by 2: (7 + 11 + 10) / 2 = 14. Tap 14.

9. Take aliens aboard UFO spaceship

Answer: Move the sheep, then use the switches. The sheep has nothing to do with the UFO. Drag it out of the way, then switch on the switches to beam the aliens up.

10. Count ripe apples

Answer: 9. Shake the phone so the ripe apples fall out of the tree, then enter 9. On a computer this is a phone-only puzzle, so take the free skip.

11. Solve this equation

Answer: 36. Use the order of operations: 5 + (5 / 5) + 5 + (5 × 5) = 5 + 1 + 5 + 25 = 36.

12. Put this apple in the basket

Answer: Drag the word “apple”. The fruit on screen is a pear, so it is a trap. Drag the word apple from the question into the basket.

13. Count bees

Answer: 11. The bees move too fast to count. Take a screenshot to freeze them and count 11, then enter it.

14. Guess what is Z

Answer: 1. If 1 = 5 then 5 = 1, so Z = 1.

15. Get on feet this Ladybug

Answer: Turn your phone upside down. Flip the phone over and the ladybug rolls back onto its feet. On a computer this is a phone-only puzzle, so take the free skip.

16. Take this big apple without a touch!

Answer: Touch the apple, then shake. Hold the big apple and shake the phone a little so it drops. On a computer this is a phone-only puzzle, so take the free skip.

17. Rescue this sheep

Answer: Tap SOS in Morse code. Tap the screen in the SOS pattern: three short taps, three long presses, three short taps (· · · − − − · · ·).

18. Put the fish into aquarium

Answer: Drag the word “fish”. Ignore the fish drawings. Drag the word fish from the question into the aquarium.

19. Touch the tube filled with brown liquid

Answer: Hold the tube neck, then shake. None of the tubes is brown yet. Tap and hold the neck of a tube and shake the phone to mix the colours into brown. On a computer this is a phone-only puzzle, so take the free skip.

20. Touch numbers in reverse

Answer: Include your coin counter. Numbers hide all over the screen, including your coin total. Tap every number from highest to lowest, coins included.

21. Put out this fire

Answer: Remove the tower support, then tilt. Remove the tower’s support and tilt the phone so the water pours onto the fire. On a computer this is a phone-only puzzle, so take the free skip.

22. Open this door

Answer: Look under the flowerpot. Move the flowerpot. The key is hidden underneath it.

23. Move one match and find a square

Answer: Nudge the right-hand match. Slide the match on the right only slightly. A small square forms in the middle where the matches meet.

24. Move 1 match and make equation true

Answer: Turn 8 into 9 and 0 into 8. Take one match from the 8 (it becomes a 9) and add it to the 0 (it becomes an 8).

25. Move this truck uphill

Answer: Drag a stone off, then tilt. The truck is overloaded. Drag one stone away and tilt the phone to help it climb. On a computer this is a phone-only puzzle, so take the free skip.

26. Find hidden error

Answer: Tap the word “error”. Read the task literally and tap the word error in the question.

27. Try to drink all the water

Answer: Turn your phone upside down. Flip the phone and the glass empties. On a computer this is a phone-only puzzle, so take the free skip.

28. Mount spare wheel

Answer: Lift with the jack; the Back button is the wheel. Use the jack to lift the truck. The spare wheel is the round Back button in the game’s interface. It looks just like a wheel.

29. Take this bone away

Answer: Drag a heart onto the dog. Show the dog some love: drag a heart onto it and it lets go of the bone.

30. Catch both fish

Answer: Drag both bobbers at once. The cat can only catch one fish at a time. When both bobbers start bobbing, drag both at the same time with two fingers. On a computer this is a phone-only puzzle, so take the free skip.

31. Grunt 50 times

Answer: Tap the pig 50 times. Each tap is one grunt. Tap the pig 50 times.

32. Light this candles

Answer: Tilt your phone sideways. Tilt the phone so the flame reaches both candles. On a computer this is a phone-only puzzle, so take the free skip.

33. Get rid of this beaver

Answer: Fill the holes, then tap the beaver. Tap each hole three times to bury it, then tap the beaver when it has nowhere left to hide.

34. Balance this swing

Answer: Clear everything off the swing. The animals and objects have different weights. Take everything off the swing so it balances.

35. Guess what means X?

Answer: 2. Follow the pattern the other rows use: (8 − 7) × 2 = 2, so X = 2.

36. Open this box

Answer: Swipe the screwdriver on the bolt. Pick up the screwdriver and swipe it across the bolt to remove it.

37. Plant 5 watermelons

Answer: Lose all your lives on purpose. Something has to scare the birds away. Spend all your lives and a scarecrow appears to scare them off, and your lives refill.

38. Wake the rooster

Answer: Wait 30 seconds without touching. Waking a rooster at night is a bad idea. Leave the screen alone for 30 seconds until dawn and the rooster wakes up.

39. Stop this dog at all costs

Answer: Pop the wheels with the pitchfork. Use the pitchfork to flatten all the wheels.

40. This pit is 2 meters in length, width, and depth. How many tons of ground is in it?

Answer: 0. It is a pit, so it is empty. Ignore the measurements: the answer is 0.

Tricks that solve most Brain Test puzzles

  1. Use the words in the question. Puzzles 3, 12, 18 and 26 are solved by dragging or tapping a word from the question.
  2. The interface is part of the puzzle. Your coin counter is one of the numbers in puzzle 20, the Back button is the spare wheel in puzzle 28, and a heart wins over the dog in puzzle 29.
  3. Move things out of the way. Wheels, sheep, flowerpots and stones hide what you need (puzzles 2, 9, 22, 25).
  4. Sometimes the answer is to do nothing. Wait out the night in puzzle 38. In puzzle 37, losing on purpose is the solution.
  5. Don’t trust the drawing. The “apple” is a pear, the pit is empty, and the numbers under the ram are upside down.
