In Short

  • Gears of War: E-Day launches worldwide on October 6, 2026 at 8 AM PT / 15:00 UTC, which is 8:30 PM IST on Tuesday.
  • It is on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass from day one, on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and Steam. It is not in the Essential, Premium or Starter tiers.
  • Pre-install is live now, and the download is about 120 GB on both Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Gears of War: E-Day opens to everyone tomorrow. The Coalition’s prequel unlocks worldwide on Tuesday, October 6 at 8 AM PT, or 8:30 PM in India, according to Xbox Wire. If you plan to play on Game Pass, the one thing worth doing tonight is starting the download.

Premium Edition owners have been playing since October 1. Everyone else, including Game Pass members on the right tier, gets in at the same moment tomorrow.

The 120 GB download is the real launch-day hurdle

Pure Xbox reports that E-Day takes up around 120.5 GB on Xbox Series X|S and 120.04 GB on PC, and the pre-install is already open. On a typical home connection that can take several hours, so leaving it until 8:30 PM tomorrow means watching a progress bar instead of playing.

  • Xbox: find E-Day in the Game Pass section or the Store and choose Install. Clear space first if your drive is close to full.
  • PC: pre-install through the Xbox app for PC Game Pass, or through Steam if you bought it there.
  • Xbox One or a low-end PC: there is no native version. Game Pass Ultimate members can stream it through Xbox Cloud Gaming instead, and it is also on GeForce NOW.

Xbox Play Anywhere is supported, so a digital copy carries your progress between console and PC.

Game Pass covers it only on Ultimate and PC Game Pass

Microsoft’s official E-Day page confirms day-one access on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Pure Xbox notes it will not be on the Essential, Premium or new Starter tiers at launch, and that Premium members should expect it in October 2027. Check your plan before you count on playing tomorrow.

If you would rather own it, the Standard Edition is $69.99 and the Premium Edition is $99.99. Owners of the Standard Edition can buy a $30 Premium upgrade, though its main perk, five days of early access, is almost used up. Digital pre-orders made before 7:59 AM PT on October 6 still get the Exfil Dom character skin and Exfil weapon skin set.

What you are getting into

E-Day is set on Emergence Day, the moment the Locust Horde first broke through the ground, and stars a younger Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago years before the original Gears of War. Xbox describes a darker, horror-leaning tone, rebuilt on Unreal Engine 5. The launch includes a campaign with co-op, a reworked Horde mode called Horde Siege with larger maps, and 4v4 Versus with ranked and social playlists.

It is an Xbox exclusive, with no PS5 or Switch 2 version announced. Online co-op and multiplayer may need a Game Pass plan that includes online play.

The short version: start the 120 GB pre-install tonight, check that your Game Pass tier is Ultimate or PC Game Pass, and you can be in at 8:30 PM IST tomorrow. Until then, a quick round of Krunker.io on Gipcus fills the wait.
