Warhammer 40,000: Darktide’s free Depths of the Damned update is live now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Fatshark’s latest drop adds the branching Spillway mission, the Prophet of Decay boss, six new weapons, class talent-tree changes, and the new Allies and Adversaries monthly event.

If you are searching for what is in the Darktide Depths of the Damned free update, when it launched, and what to play first, this rundown follows Fatshark’s official announcement and September 29 Games Press release.

Spillway: Water Cartel tunnels with branching paths

Spillway sends Strike Teams into an unseen stretch of Tertium controlled by the Water Cartel — tunnels, waterways, and forgotten passages crawling with Chaos and decay. Fatshark designed the mission around branching route choices: every path leads toward the same destination, but the wrong turn can mean traps, locked doors, or extra objectives. A symbol uncovered earlier in the run is the clue for safer routes, and that symbol is randomized between playthroughs.

Depths of the Damned also frames Spillway as the climax of a short live story campaign that starts with helping Tertium nobles before the warband descends deeper into the Hive.

Face the Prophet of Decay

Waiting at the end is the Prophet of Decay, a corrupted Psyker who has claimed the depths of the Torrent. Fatshark positions the fight as more than a pure DPS check — wits, teamwork, and firepower all matter if you want to purge the corruption.

Six new weapons and a talent-tree rework

The arsenal expands with a mix of new weapon families and marks usable across multiple classes:

  • New families: Ogryn Cruncher, Huntsman’s Shotgun, Ogryn Thugshot
  • New marks: Crusher Krourk Mk VII, Double-Barrelled Shotgun Krouk Mk IV, Gromm Mk I Battle Maul, Mk V Slab Shield

On the build side, Fatshark removed many smaller talent-tree stat nodes so points go into higher-impact abilities. Class and weapon balance adjustments ship with the update; loadouts may need a light re-point after tree layout changes. Golden Toughness also loses its spillover-immunity special case so it behaves like regular Toughness.

Allies and Adversaries event and store rotation

The new monthly event Allies and Adversaries starts alongside Depths of the Damned. Interrogator Rannick aids Grendyl’s allies across three missions, eventually sending players into the Torrent to help the Ragged King. New premium cosmetics for the Cadian 512th and Krieg 158th are available in Commodore’s Vestures, plus the usual store rotation and quality-of-life fixes.
