Capcom has announced that the Resident Evil 2 remake, which launched in 2019, is now the best-selling game in the series. To date, the Resident Evil 2 remake has sold 12.6 million copies, coming out ahead of Resident Evil 7 ( which has sold 12.4 million copies).
The company recently released its financial results for the second quarter of 2023 and has updated its list of Platinum Titles, representing Capcom’s best-selling games. Capcom also confirmed that the Resident Evil 4 remake, which launched earlier this year, has sold 4.9 million copies. In total, the Resident Evil series has sold over 146 million units worldwide.
Monster Hunter World still remains Cacpom’s best-selling game at 19 million units. This title launched in 2018, while its Iceborne DLC released the following year. The company’s second-best-selling game, Monster Hunter Rise, has reached over 13 million copies sold since its launch in 2021.
Capcom has big plans for the future and, as noted during a recent earnings call, will launch a new game that is expected to “sell millions” by March of 2024 (as relayed by Bloomberg’s Takashi Mochizuki). It’s unclear what this game will be, as Capcom has yet to officially announce it.
Likewise, Capcom has yet to reveal the next Resident Evil game. In recent years, the company has alternated between remakes and new mainline entries. In June, Capcom sent out a survey asking fans about which Resident Evil games they want to see remade, leading to speculation that the developer may announce a new Resident Evil game for the fiscal year ending in March of 2024.
